Tiruchendur is very popular for the seashore temple of Lord Subramanya. Thiruchendur is situated on the coast of Mannar. Many devotees visit the temple during the festival seasons like Panguni Uthiram, Surasamkaram, Thai Poosam.
The temple is one among the six abodes. Lord Subramanya, after defeating Soorapadma came to this place for offering his prayers to Lord Siva. That victory is still celebrated by the pilgrims here during the Tamil Month 'Aippasi' as a festival.
Tiruchendur is about 40Kms from Thoothukudi. It can be reached from Tuticorin, Chennai, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari by bus. Nearest airport is in Madurai or Thiruvananthapuram. |
